3 ER visits, 1 ambulance ride in 15 days

Well we had a bunch of excitement at our house and all of it happened in 15 days! I'm pretty sure we have had our fair share for a long time, at least I hope so because I'm not sure we can afford much more.

Trip #1 Memorial day we were cleaning the house getting ready for company for Lexi's baptism and Johnny and I were heading on our trip to Philly and NYC right after. The girl's were staying with my mom and I decided to clean the car as well since she would have to drive it around for the week.  I had the kids out helping me and they each were taking turns watching Samantha while I vacuumed since I couldn't see or hear her while it was on. The car seats were out of the car and Danielle comes running to me and had a very worried look on her face and was crying. I instantly knew something was wrong. I turned the vacuumed off and rushed to Samantha who was sitting on Danielle's car seat in the driveway and she was covered in blood. There was so much I couldn't see where it was coming from. I rushed her inside and rinsed her hand because that is where most of it was and she had her finger hanging from a thread. I wrapped it in a paper towel and we rushed to the ER. Danielle was very upset because she is the one who hurt her and she is my sensitive one so it was very overwhelming for her. Samantha was on the booster seat with a back but the back flops down when not resting against something. Samantha must of had her finger in the hinge and Danielle while playing with her, pushed the back up and pinched her finger almost off. We left the older girls with my neighbor and tried to get a hold of family to come get them. Luckily they got us right in and sewed her up. They gave her a shot that put her to sleep sort of. She seemed like she was awake because she could move a little bit but she was out. The ER doctor did a great job sewing it back on. We don't know how many stitches but it went around her whole finger. The DR said it did go down to the bone but nothing was broken.  She was zonked out for the next hour or so. When she got home she sleep in our arms for awhile then woke up and and was high on drugs and was acting crazy. I was paranoid that she was going to bust her stitches.

I did witness something I have never seen. Jamin came over and helped Johnny give her a blessing. During the blessing Johnny started crying. Of course it made me cry even more but I secretly was glad to know that it is in there somewhere. I always tease him that he wouldn't cry at my funeral so this is a big deal to me.

A few days later she had a followup appointment and the DR said it looked great. It looks great now over a month later and it doesn't seem to bother her.

This is her a little high on pain drugs.
Trip #2 Johnny and I made it on our trip and we were in Philadelphia.  We were in old town touring Independence hall and were in line to see the liberty bell. Johnny was kinda quiet and starting talking about his chest hurting. After we saw the bell he was walking super slow for him so we sat down outside. We gave it awhile and I was googling his symptoms. After about 30 or more minutes it was still bothering him so we went inside to ask where we could find first aid or the nearest hospital. It was only a couple of blocks away so we decided to go over. He felt shooting pain in his chest and it hurt to breathe so we decided it was better to be safe. The did an EKG right away and it wasn't a heart attack, thank goodness. So after that we did an x-ray, blood work etc to rule out anything else major.  They found nothing and sent us on our way with no diagnose. After taking to his Dad and cousin we all decided it was probably a bad case of indigestion.  It is very painful and everyone we talked to said that they went to the ER as well. HIs episode lasted for about 4 hours. We were thankful it turned out to be nothing major but he was so mad that we had to use our vacation in the ER. I was just thankful he was ok.

Trip #3 A few days after we got home from our trip, Samantha started a high fever.  She woke from her nap warm but i thought nothing of it because she just was covered in blankets. She ate dinner fine and we went swimming. I didn't feel her again being super hot, but she didn't want to swim which is very unusual for her. Debbi took her out of the pool while I swam awhile longer with the big kids. I got out to check on her and she was burning hot. I decided we would go home. On the way I got her a slurpee because it was in the 100's that day and I thought maybe she was dehydrated and I knew she would drink a slurpee and that may cool her down as well. When we got home she was 102 temp.  I got her some medicine and held her with an ice pack on her head. She slept on me but she didn't seem to cool down too much. After a few hours of holding her I had to put her to bed. I checked her an hour later when I was going to bed and she was 104.3. I woke her up and gave her some more medicine and took her clothes off and tired the ice pack again. While snuggling her she instantly started having a seizure. Johnny was in the room with me and we ran downstairs and called 911.  Her lips turned blue and she didn't  seem to be breathing well. We were in a complete panic and the operator told us we had to calm down to help her and lay her on her side. After 3 minutes she stopped seizing and was calm. The color came back but she was pale. The EMT's got there a few minutes later and suggested we go to the hospital. I jumped in the ambulance with her and headed to the hospital. Johnny had woken the girls up to go with us and they drove to the hospital. Johnny called his parents and they rushed over to grab the girls. John and Johnny gave her a blessing as well. The poor thing got worked over. She had to get a catheter to test her urine, a rectal thermometer, an x ray, an iv which they couldn't get in so it took 3 tries, and of course some more medicine. Her temp came down shortly after they gave her medicine and we got to go home. They said it was very normal to have a febrile seizure but it should not cause any damage. They also said that she could have another one but she should grow out of it by the time she is 5. It was most definitely the scariest thing I have ever seen. I just wept at the ER thinking about how we could have lost her that night.

What have I learned in those 15 days? I learned that life can change very quickly. We could lose a finger, have a heart attack or stop breathing and in a few minutes life is changed forever. I have also learned that I am strong and can do hard things even though I don't want to ever again! I have amazing people in my family who helped us when we needed and great neighbors as well. My husband does have tears in there deep sown. I have also be reminded of the priesthood power and the power of prayer. Thankfully we have had a happy ending on all three trips but I know that is all from the many prayers on our behalf.
